PVCICS Middle School Students Win First Place in MathCounts Regional Competition
February 10, 2024 - The Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School (PVCICS) middle school MathCounts team won first place in the western Massachusetts/Connecticut Valley regional competition held on February 10. PVCICS has consistently placed in the top performing schools in the MathCounts competitions.
The MathCounts team consists of middle school students in grades 6 through 8, who met after school with a faculty advisor throughout the school year to play math games, solve puzzles, and work through math problems together. “Our students worked hard and we’re very proud of their achievements,” said Kathleen Wang, Principal, “we appreciate their teamwork.”
PVCICS is a tuition-free regional public charter school located in Hadley, Massachusetts,
which enrolls almost 560 K-12th grade students from nearly 30 communities in the Pioneer
Valley. PVCICS prepares students for academic and personal success through rigorous study in English and Mandarin Chinese. The school's goal is to graduate students with excellent scholarship, high proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and English, and sensitivity to multiple cultures. PVCICS is an International Baccalaureate World School offering the IB Diploma Programme.
MathCounts is a nationwide organization that aims to cultivate interest and ambition in math among students of all ages. The MathCounts curricula are designed to foster a group ethic and encourage collaboration among students. The national program has two facets: the Club Program, which provides resources for schools to start their own math enrichment clubs, and the Competition Program, a “bee style” mathematics competition for middle school students.
